11 New Kitchen Products from Design and Construction Week 2016

Luxury appliances are looking to their hardened commercial counterparts for inspiration while finishes for food-prep areas are becoming softer and smoother to meet the growing trend toward opening up floor plans and making the kitchen the center of the home. Spotted at the 2016 Design and Construction Week, which ran from Jan. 19 to 22 , in Las Vegas, these fixtures and finishes will cause designers and home cooks alike to up their game.


Perfect Steam Washer and Perfect Steam Dryer

Electrolux’s new front-loading washer with SmartBoost technology pre-mixes water and detergent before the laundry cycle begins for a more thorough wash in 15 minutes. In addition to a sanitizing option that the company claims removes 99% of bacteria and 95% of allergens, the brand’s StainSoak and Perfect Steam technologies tailor each cycle to specific stain types, adding steam when necessary. Similar technology on the unit’s companion dryer removes wrinkles, reduces static, and further sanitizes the wash load. HWg 1803 Series Wine Cabinets

German appliances brand Liebherr designed these climate-controlled cabinets as much to store bottles of wine as to show them off. For installation in 17.5”-tall niches, the units have white or black fronts with front-reflective glass and LED lighting to offer a view of the interior, which is fitted with beach wood shelves. An LCD screen displays the interior temperature. Combi-steam

Gaggenau’s new 400 series Combi-steam ovens are equipped with precise temperature regulation from 120-400 degrees Fahrenheit, creating ideal conditions for sous-vide cooking, which requires controlled low temperatures. The model also boasts a fixed inlet and outlet water connection that automatically cleans the oven’s interior—even when it’s heavily soiled—to ensure a clean and hygienic finish at the end of each use. Italian luxury appliances manufacturer Smeg is growing its retro-inspired portfolio in the U.S. with the addition of the FAB32. The midcentury-inspired bottom-freezer refrigerator model is fitted with two adjustable thermostats to monitor and maintain internal temperatures. In the refrigerator portion, adjustable glass shelves allow for the customization of space while, in the freezer, various drawers and compartments offer a range of organization options. German cabinet manufacturer Poggenpohl debuted its second collaboration with Studio F.A. Porsche. Offered in three neutral shades as part of a color scheme that is exclusive to P`7350, the series’ sleek surfaces feature mitered cuts where drawer-front meets cabinet body and vertical aluminum-clad trims to emphasize a bold departure from more traditional, horizontal kitchen designs. Ink and Aquatint

Cosentino’s Silestone quartz surfaces brand collaborated with six North American designers—its fourth such outreach—to develop these two duotone surfacing materials.
