A Lifetime of Service
Don Beal recognized with National Association of Home Builders 2023 Exemplary Service to Home Building Award.
The Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines (DSM HBA) proudly announced that long-time member, Don Beal, has received the 2023 Exemplary Service to Home Building Award through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
“Don has been an important asset to the success of the Homes Builders Association of Greater Des Moines for many years,” notes Dan Knoup, Executive Officer DSM HBA. “It was an honor to be in attendance when he received the award and to see the joy he had accepting the award with his family and friends surrounding him.”
Beal began his residential construction career while a student at Iowa State University. During his junior and senior years, he helped develop and construct 12 multifamily units while earning his degree. Since that time, Beal has been very active at all levels of the Association, supporting home building and the housing industry.
At the National level, Don has served in many leadership positions and chaired multiple National Committees. He has served as an area representative and has been an Iowa state representative for 20 consecutive years and has been an NAHB Senior Life Director since 2010. He is passionate about the work that NAHB does to recruit and support the future of home building; To that end, he has earned 264 Spikes and donated almost $103,000 to BuildPAC over a 35-year span.
But these were just his commitments to NAHB; Don also spent an enormous amount of time serving at the state and local Association levels, he is a successful contractor in the greater Des Moines area, and he gives back to his community—at home and around the world—whenever he can, because he fully believes in giving back. Whether donating the proceeds from a show home, serving the Federation in a volunteer capacity or building homes in third world countries, Don is committed to the housing industry and is always ready, willing and able to help.
Beal is known for going above and beyond when a job needs to get done. Those who have worked with him over his 35+ years in the industry have said that his presence, his acknowledgement of support and his quiet nod of approval mean the world to them, and that he has served as a key mentor and friend in their careers and in their personal lives. Beal has worked, and continues to work, tirelessly so that the next generation sees a future for themselves in residential construction.
The Exemplary Service to Home Building Award was established to recognize individuals for outstanding and commendable accomplishments in service to the housing industry. These are people who have made noteworthy contributions to housing and had a significant impact on the nation’s home building industry. The National Housing Center Board of Governors presented Beal with the award at the NAHB National Housing Center Awards in Washington, D.C. on June 6, 2023.
